Le 26 décembre 2018, Taïwan met fin au service militaire obligatoire dans le pays. Dans le même temps son gouvernement reconnaît que, faute de volontaires en nombre suffisant, il ne pourra pas porter à 188 000 hommes son armée de métier, comme il l’avait programmé cinq ans plus tôt. Deux signes qui peuvent conduire à douter de la volonté de défense du pays.
On the 26th December 2018, Taiwan put an end to the compulsory military service in the country. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese Government admitted that, owing to the lack of volunteers, they were unable to increase their professional army to 188 000 men, as it had been planned five years before. These two portents could lead to doubt of the country’s will to prepare its defense.
