Les porte-parole adjoints des ministères des Affaires étrangères vietnamien et taïwanais ont eu une joute verbale à propos d’un exercice de tir taïwanais dans les eaux de l’île de Taiping1 (Itu-Aba) en mer de Chine du Sud. Taiping est la seule île « possédée » par Taïwan dans cette zone. Mais le Vietnam la revendique.
FAITS
Le 8 juin 2023 : le porte-parole vietnamien des Affaires étrangères accuse Taïwan d’avoir mené des exercices à tir réel dans les eaux autour de l’île de Itu-Aba, déclarant qu’il s’agit d’une grave violation de la souveraineté du Vietnam sur les îles Spratleys (Nansha en chinois). Selon Hanoï elle « menace la paix maritime, la stabilité et la sécurité de la navigation » en mer de Chine du Sud
Le 11 juin : son homologue taïwanais déclare cette accusation inacceptable car l’île de Taiping appartient à Taïwan2, et cela ne peut être remis en cause, réaffirmant :

Renewed Vietnamese claim on Taiping Island (太平島)/Itu-Aba in the Spratlys
The deputy spokesmen of the Vietnamese and Taiwanese foreign ministries have had a verbal joust over a Taiwanese firing exercise in the waters off the island of Taiping1 (Itu-Aba) in the South China Sea. Taiping is the only island « owned » by Taiwan in this area. Vietnam, however, lays claim to it.
FACTS
June 8, 2023: the Vietnamese Foreign Affairs spokesman accuses Taiwan of conducting live-fire exercises in the waters around Itu-Aba Island, declaring it a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Spratly Islands (Nansha in Chinese). According to Hanoi, it « threatens maritime peace, stability and safety of navigation » in the South China Sea.
June 11: his Taiwanese counterpart declares this accusation unacceptable, as the island of Taiping belongs to Taiwan2 , and this cannot be called into question, reaffirming:
- that it enjoys all rights under international law and the law of the sea,
